  • Dying at Home. De-mystifying dying and reskilling families.

By Professor Davina Porock PhD - School of Nursing and Midwifery, Edith Cowan University

Davina is a nurse who has worked in Australia, the UK, and the USA in clinical practice, teaching and research over the past four decades. Davina’s passion is care of the dying and her research focuses on recognising the transitions in dying particularly in the last months and weeks of life, and then in the last days and hours. She has personal and professional experience of caring for a loved one dying at home.

In her presentation, Davina will focus on the last few days and hours of life: overviewing the process of the body shutting down; identifying and understanding the signs of imminent death; and providing strategies and tips on caring in the last days of life at home.

  • Understanding Voluntary Assisted Dying

By Dying with Dignity WA

Understanding Voluntary Assisted Dying
Presented by Dying with Dignity WA, this informative session will explore the legal, ethical, and emotional aspects of Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) in Western Australia. The talk will explain who is eligible, how the process works, and what safeguards are in place to protect individuals and families. Whether you're seeking clarity for yourself, a loved one, or simply want to understand this important end-of-life option, this session offers compassionate, fact-based guidance in a supportive environment.

DWDWA is an incorporated not-for-profit association, founded in 1984. The members of DWDWA believe that a person who is terminally ill and experiencing intolerable and irremediable pain or suffering should have the right to choose to die, painlessly and with dignity, and that a doctor who has the courage and compassion to help them must be protected by the law. It should be possible for the person’s choice to be expressed while mentally competent or by virtue of an advance health directive.
