Death Doula Workshop: How to Work with a Funeral Home Team
Free event
Saturday 28th March
2-3:30pm
Anyone welcome if you are studying to be a doula or already in the industry
2/2 Carson Road Malaga
As death doulas, your role is deeply personal, relational, and grounded in advocacy for the dying and those who love them. Yet one of the most important — and least discussed — aspects of the work is how to confidently and respectfully collaborate with a funeral home team.
This practical, WA-focused workshop is designed to fill the gaps often left by online programs and eastern-state courses. We’ll explore what actually happens on the ground, and how to create smooth, supportive partnerships that ultimately benefit families at one of the most vulnerable times of their lives.
In this workshop, we’ll cover:
The conversations that matter most with families before and after death
Understanding local laws, processes, and limitations in Western Australia
Where the death doula role sits alongside the funeral director — and where it doesn’t
How funeral homes work behind the scenes (and why it matters)
Supporting family choices while maintaining legal, ethical, and logistical harmony
Navigating differing expectations with clarity, respect, and confidence
Creating collaborative relationships that feel aligned rather than adversarial
This workshop is not about changing the heart of your work — it’s about strengthening it. By understanding the funeral care framework and learning how to work with the funeral team, death doulas can help create calmer, more empowered experiences for families, and a more unified circle of care.
Whether you are newly trained or well established, this session will leave you feeling informed, grounded, and better equipped to advocate for families while fostering mutual respect across professional roles.
Working Together: Funeral Celebrants & Funeral Directors
A practical workshop for funeral celebrants who want funeral services to run smoothly, calmly, and with care.
Date: Saturday 25th April
Time: 2-3:30pm
Location: 2/2 Carson Road Malaga
Free Workshop
This session focuses on how celebrants and funeral directors can work in true partnership to support families and honour lives well. We’ll unpack the behind-the-scenes details that often make the biggest difference on the day—details that aren’t always taught, but matter deeply.
We’ll cover:
• How funeral directors plan and manage the flow of a service
• Clear roles and responsibilities—who does what, and when
• Communication tips that prevent stress and last-minute surprises
• Practical tips and tricks that create calm, seamless services
• Alternative service formats, and flexible approaches to ceremonies
• Working together to balance family wishes, logistics, and care
This workshop is about collaboration, respect, and shared purpose—so families experience a service that feels thoughtful, organised, and genuinely supportive.
Whether you’re newly accredited, interested in becoming a funeral celebrant or highly experienced, you’ll leave with insights you can use immediately.
